When Ana + Jerome reached out to me in April because they needed a Chicago Elopement Photographer, I was thrilled! I adore city elopements. City Hall is a beautiful place to get married, and the city of Chicago offers so many stunning backdrops for photos either after or before the civil ceremony. Ana + Jerome knew they wanted to do portraits immediately following their City Hall vows- so I tossed out some ideas.
Chicago Portrait Spots
Right after their ceremony, we met outside City Hall and started taking photos! First we hit up the general City Hall area, and then we hurried down to grab some iconic city shots in front of the Chicago Board Of Trade. We, of course, had to grab some bridge shots, over the Chicago river… and stop along the Riverwalk as well. Then it was off to North Avenue Beach to get the skyline photos!

It is SO important when searching for a Chicago Elopement Photographer to make sure the person you hire can shoot photos in all types of light. With engagement sessions and lifestyle shoots, you can choose the exact time of day for the best light. But when you have an appointment at City Hall, that goes out the window. Ana + Jerome had a 9AM ceremony- meaning we were taking their portraits from 10AM – Noon… pretty much the harshest lighting of the day in Chicago in the month of May. So make sure you choose a photographer who displays a clear understanding of exposing for all types of light, in their portfolio photos.
